Malayan Towage and Salvage Corporation (MTSC), in partnership with Nippon Salvage Corporation (NSC), successfully refloated the barge "Tenkou" last December 06, 2016. The barge, a 18,500 DWT Super Deck Cargo Barge fully loaded with gantry cranes, was being towed from Japan to Malaysia when tug and tow encountered rough seas off Northern Luzon due to the prevailing NE monsoon. MTSC Employees planted 200 Molave and Narra seedlings near the river banks to soak up nutrients and pollutants before they enter any stream or river. The new trees are intended to help protect both the river reservoirs as well as absorb pollutants that would otherwise enter the local water supply.
