Salvage Of Japanese Barge 'TENKOU'

Malayan Towage and Salvage Corporation (MTSC), in partnership with Nippon Salvage Corporation (NSC), successfully refloated the barge "Tenkou" last December 06, 2016. The barge, a 18,500 DWT Super Deck Cargo Barge fully loaded with gantry cranes, was being towed from Japan to Malaysia when tug and tow encountered rough seas off Northern Luzon due to the prevailing NE monsoon. Both tug and barge ran aground off the shore of Sanchez Mira, Cagayan in the early morning of November 28, 2016. Quick response salvage teams of MTSC and NSC arrived at the site of casualty the following morning and immediately conducted salvage operations with MTSC Salvage Tugboat TRABAJADOR-1. Efficient salvage operations led to the successful refloating of the casualty after 8 days with the barge intact and no major damage. The barge was subsequently towed by MTSC tugboats "Trabajador-1" and "Lidagat" from Cagayan and safely delivered in Subic on December 10, 2016 for further inspection and repair.
